Living the Easter Spirit
In the tradition of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, Easter holds profound significance that transcends mere observance; it embodies a way of life steeped in love, humility, and devotion. For them, Easter was not just an annual event but a daily journey of embracing Christ’s teachings: “Take up your Cross and follow me” (cf. Mt. 16:24), leading to the ultimate joy of resurrection. Easter therefore, is the celebration of this hope: that we will be raised with Christ if we follow Him as Francis and Clare did. Easter is a celebration of redemption and the bondless love that conquers death itself.
St. Francis and St. Clare, known for their profound reverence for nature and their commitment to poverty and simplicity, viewed the resurrection of Jesus Christ as a powerful affirmation of the divine love that permeates all of creation. Their lives were a testament to the transformative power of the Cross and Resurrection. They sought to live in harmony with God, humanity, and the natural world, exemplifying humility, compassion, and joy in every action. Through lives of prayer, contemplation, and service, they reflected a deep transformation brought about by the power of Christ’s resurrection.
As we reflect on the Easter season, may we be inspired to live lives of radical love and humility, to embrace the beauty of God’s creation, and to journey ever closer to the heart of Christ. May new life in Christ infuse every aspect of our lives, transforming us and the world around us with the power of divine love.
